Exterior windows & doors.

Double glazing is only the start. We go further, with thermally-broken and German-engineered joinery built for genuine comfort and quiet.

Systems we specify

High-performance joinery.

Nelson and Tasman sites bring strong sun, salt air off the bay and a real winter chill on the hill blocks, so the joinery has to earn its keep in both directions. We choose between these three systems on a job-by-job basis, weighing frame material, budget and how much of the home's glazing faces the weather. NK Windows uPVC is on The Green House and The Blue House; thermally-broken aluminium joinery is on our Redwood Valley project. See more in our project gallery.

Altherm ThermalHEART thermally-broken aluminium joinery

Altherm ThermalHEART: aluminium windows & doors

Double glazing is standard these days, but ThermalHEART technology takes the fight against winter cold a step further, with an additional thermal insulator stitched into the core of every aluminium profile.

NK UPVC windows and doors detail

NK Windows & Doors: UPVC joinery

We specify NK Windows on our Passive-standard and high-performance builds for its multi-chamber uPVC frame, which gives a real step up in security and sound insulation over standard aluminium joinery, at a lower cost than thermally-broken aluminium for the same performance.

German-engineered Ecowindows joinery on a high-performance home

Ecowindows & Doors: German engineering

We turn to Ecowindows on designs where a slimmer aluminium sightline matters more than uPVC's bulkier frame, most often on architectural homes with large expanses of glazing, without giving up the thermal performance a Nelson Tasman winter demands.

Good questions

Windows and doors, answered.

Is double glazing enough, or do you go further?

Double glazing is the New Zealand standard, but the frame matters as much as the glass. We specify thermally-broken and UPVC joinery so the whole window performs, not just the pane in the middle of it.

What are thermally-broken aluminium windows?

Altherm ThermalHEART aluminium joinery has an insulating strip stitched into the core of every profile, stopping the aluminium frame itself from carrying cold straight through the wall the way a standard aluminium frame does.

Do you install UPVC windows?

Yes. NK Windows and Doors is one of our specified UPVC joinery systems, chosen for its security, noise reduction and thermal performance.

What makes joinery "high performance"?

The frame construction, the seals and the glazing unit all working together, not just a double- glazed pane in any frame. That is why we specify Altherm ThermalHEART, NK Windows or the German- engineered Ecowindows range, depending on the design.

Which brand is right for my home?

It depends on your design, budget and the look you want. We talk you through the trade-offs between thermally-broken aluminium, UPVC and German-engineered joinery before we specify anything.
